On Thursday, the Nebraska History Museum hosted “Atomic Age After Hours,” a special event that featured drinks and appetizers, live jazz music from the band Cambia and a costume contest, all in an “atomic era” atmosphere.

With the backdrop of the Cold War, visitors are immersed in period pieces, games and film clips of this era. Among these features, an exhibit showcasing the photography of Ralph and Barbara Fox. Titled “American Dreams in the Cold War: Photos by Barbara and Ralph Fox,” the exhibit features “mid-century moments including news, commercial, and personal images by the husband and wife team from 1950s-60s.”

The idea for this event developed from a focus group the History Museum put together of young professionals who were inspired by the Fox’s photography and other concepts of the period.

The exhibit is on display at the Nebraska History Museum, 131 Centennial Mall N, until March 19, 2017. It is free of charge. The museum is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on weekends. More information is available on the Nebraska State Historical Society website.
