Hey there K-Zoomies, this is Mike Carlin and I'm the host of "Group W" Blues right here on KZUM, the coolest radio station in the world. I play blues, boogie and other assorted stuff from three to six on Tuesday afternoons. I've had several people ask me why I call the show "Group W" Blues. It comes from Arlo Guthrie's classic song The Alice's Restaurant Massacre. In the song Arlo gets in some minor trouble with the local police in a small town in Massachusetts. Because of this, when Arlo goes to take his draft physical he finds himself on the Group W Bench, where they send you if you may not be moral enough to join the army after committing your special crime which in his case was being a litterbug. Since then the term Group W has come to represent independent minded people who stand up to the bureaucracy instead of following the status quo. By listening to KZUM instead of to a corporate radio station you have demonstrated that you are an independent thinker that qualifies you for a seat on the Group W Bench. Have a seat, there's room for everyone. You don't need to worry about splinters; the Group W Bench has been polished by some of the finest butts in creation.
