Memphis-based Lucero headlined The Bourbon Theatre Wednesday on the first leg of their Fall Tour.

Their most recent album,All a Man Should Do, was released in 2015, so the show was a healthy mix of old and new material. The band is unique in the way they mix country and punk into one genre and have quite the fan base. Taking the main stage after their tour mate Matthew Logan Vasquez opened, super fans were already front and center.

They started with an acoustic set lasting about four or five songs, and later transitioned to their more punk-rock sound. Intermittently throughout the show, front man Ben Nichols would take song requests from the audience and save them for last. There was a sweet moment where he invited a mother and son on stage and they thanked him for his music, making him get emotional. He let them dance on stage together while performing a slow song along with band mate Rick Steff on the accordion.

It was an intimate show, and longtime fans of Lucero were clearly thrilled with their performance.
