First Friday is here once again! Come celebrate the beginning of April with a collection of art and music events from around Lincoln. Find below the complete list of events around the city and don’t forget to look for the KZUM First Friday map at your favorite locations! The map will have the list of all locations on an ideal art walk around downtown, while the below list only shows specific events at locations along the way.

Art Events

Flashback First Friday- 12th & R, UNL City Campus | 5-7 p.m.

The Sheldon Museum of Art presents “Flashback First Friday.” Celebrating the museum’s latest exhibit “The Long 1968” this event will give visitors the opportunity to decorate potted plants or buttons.

Crescent Moon Coffeehouse- 140 N. 8th St. | 8:00 p.m.

Located in the Haymarket at 140 N. 8th St., Crescent Moon Coffeehouse will be showing artwork by Cody Schneider for the month of April. Friday’s event will also feature music by Scott Schnirl, beginning at 8:00 p.m.  

Gallery 9- 124 S. 9th St. | 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.

Galley 9’s April opening reception will be of “Fleeting and Bejeweled” a collection of beadwork, photography and mixed media by local artists Gabriela Vlad Moscu, Bruce Thiel and Carol DeVall.  

Noyes Gallery- 119 S. 9th St. | 6-9 p.m.

Featuring their usual studio open house, the Noyes Art Gallery opening will feature ten artists. The works of:  Karissa Bettendorf, Tammy Davis, Teri Martens, Lisa Gustafson, Gary Kudym, Audrey Schleicher, Kirk Kuenzi, Ramona Fink, Kevin Loudon, Lori Heine will be on display for April.

Francie and Finch Bookstore- 130 S. 13th | 5:30- 7:30 p.m.

Live art by greeting card designer Lisa Worall will be showcased at Francie and Finch Bookstore this week. Worall’s presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m. and be accompanied by pianist Anne Melang-Thoren.

New Beer’s Eve w/ AMA & Fuse Coworking- 151 N. 8th, floors 2 &5 | 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

The Lincoln chapter of the American Marketing Association has teamed up with Fuse Coworking  in downtown area to provide a spring networking event. Drawing young professionals from all industries and interests, this event will feature a raffle for an AMA Membership, free food, free beer and live screen printing.

Play Photography at The Nonprofit Hub- 211 N. 14th | 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Lincoln High School Photography students present their semester works, focusing on the theme of “play.” This event will feature snacks provided by Nonprofit Hub and a musical accompaniment by Men with Dreams.

Pha Nguyen at Stella Collective- 101 N. 14th #7 | 6-8 p.m.

Senior University of Nebraska-Lincoln student Pha Nguyen will present a collection of realist painting that delve into classical and figurative styles. A painter, photographer, illustrator and mentor, Nguyen’s artistic energy is both focused and unfinished. His work often uses human anatomy to contemplate solitude and fragility. Work will be on display at Stella Collective (101 N. 14th St.) for First Friday.

Parrish Studios (Multiple Galleries)- 116 N. 14th | 7-9 p.m.

A must-stop for every First Friday. A collection of well-established and up-and-coming galleries showcases art from nearly every style, region and medium.

Tugboat Gallery: “A Second Guess” presented by Chardic Devin, Madison Svendgard and Kendall Johnson.

The Aliens: Featuring work from local artists Christian Jo Gauthier, Alex Jacobsen, and Margo Johnson as well as special guests Joelle Wellansa and Jimi Zich.

Blueberry Gallery: “Two Years of Growth” presented by painter Josephine Karre

III of Cups: “Rhapsody on Pavement” presented by Levi Gerlach and Enia Kiusals

Turbine Flats- 2124 Y St. | 5-8 p.m.

A fundraiser for Clinton Elementary school’s art department, Turbine Flats  April showcase will featured the works of Clinton 4th and 5th-grade students. All sales of student art will directly benefit the art program. The event will also be accepting donations of art supplies.  In addition to the Clinton fundraiser, speakers Eva Prettyman, Jessica McClure and Diana Ramos will be presenting at the event. Reactor Coffee, a new cafe space inside Turbine Flats, will hold their soft opening at this First Friday as well.

Constellation Studios- “Semographics III Monoprint Collaboration” will open at Constellation Studios (2055 O St.) The collaborative work of 12 printmakers, this exhibition combines silkscreen and relief printmaking. Starting in March of 2017, the Atlanta Printmakers Studio and the Savannah College of Art and Design hosted a weeklong experiment which challenged theses artists to work in new mediums and techniques. The resulting prints of fine art focused technicalities will be on display at Constellation Studios through April.

“Cost of Living” at Iron Tail Gallery- 643 S. 25th St. STE 7 | 7-10 p.m.

Artist Tonja Torgerson uses her solo exhibit to present works that grapple with the monetary cost of chronic illness.

Lux Center for the Arts– 2601 N. 48th | 5-8 p.m.

The Lux features two shows this month, the continuation of work by Colombian painter Nancy Friedemann-Sanchez, as well as the opening of work by Brazilian sculptor Louise Deroualle. Deroualle’s exhibit, entitled “Between the Shadow and the Soul” uses ceramic sculpture to express her identity and existence.

AEJ Ceramics at Little Mountain Print Shoppe- 1355 S. 33rd | 5-9 p.m.

Audrey Jurek, the face of AEJ Ceramics, will be showcasing and selling her ceramic decorative and functional works at Little Mountain Print Shoppe.

Pam Anderson Photography at The Coffee Roaster- 5022 Old Cheney Rd. | 6-8 p.m.

Local photographer Pam Anderson will be showcasing and selling canvases of her Nebraska and nature-inspired photos. All sales of photo canvases will be directly donated to the Food Bank of Lincoln Child Hunger Program.

Music

While the art walk was what made First Friday famous, there are plenty of musical events this Friday that work alongside the artists festivities.

Big Daddy Caleb and CA Waller at Mo Java- 2649 N. 48th | 7-9 p.m.

Six local musicians have come together to perform an informal acoustic blues set at Mo Java Espresso Cafe & Bar for this First Friday. A free, all ages show, these longtime blues musicians will be playing for two hours.

Prairie Psycho at Indigo Bridge- 701 P. St. STE 102 | 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Local indie-rock band Prairie Psycho will be starting off the evening at Indigo Bridge Bookstore & Cafe. This show is free and open to all ages of art-walkers.

Beethoven 8 & 6 at the Lied Center- 301 N. 12th St. | 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Join Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra for the continuation of their five-year goal to play all of the Beethoven symphonies. This concert will be a side-by-side performance with the Lincoln Youth Symphony Orchestra and will feature Beethoven’s three works: Overture from Fidelio Opus 72c, Symphony Number 8 in F Major Opus 92 and Symphony Number 6 in F Major Opus 68. Golden Ratio Vol. 14 at Marz Bar- 1140 O St. | 6:00 p.m. -1:30 a.m

Join local DJs and KZUM-ies Carter Van Pelt, Conoley Osopovat and Spencer Munson for an all-vinyl live spinning of their favorite vibe-worthy tracks. These DJs have hosted Eastern Standard Time, Golden Ratio Radio and The Message on KZUM.

TrvpSquad and Friends @ 1867 Bar-  101 N. 14th | 8:00 p.m.

Rising local EDM artists have come together form the TrvpSquad. Artists Bassic Stylz, Odinson, DJ Dally G and Gone_Nuclear will be playing an all-ages show at 1867 Bar this Friday. The show requires a $5 cover and $2 minor fee for those under 21.

EZB at Duffy’s- 1412 O St. | 8:00 p.m.

EZB Stage Designs is bringing an extended LCD display to Duffy’s Tavern this Friday. The 21+ show will highlight the works of DJs Darkwood, Dabski, djblac and NBD. This event has a $7 cover, music begins at 9:00 p.m.

Shawn Holt w/ Big Daddy Caleb at the Zoo Bar- 136 N. 14th | 9:30 p.m.

For some late-night blues, catch Shawn Holt and Big Daddy Caleb at the Zoo Bar. Stepping away from their early acoustic set the Mo Java, Big Daddy Caleb will play at 9:30 downtown. This set will feature “Lil’ Slim” Shawn Holt, Matt Richardson, Jake Wiese and JJ King.
