KZUM is proud to present Amy Goodman, host of “Democracy Now!,” at The Rococo Theatre on Friday, April 20, as part of the station’s yearlong 40th anniversary celebration.
Goodman is the host and executive producer of “Democracy Now!,” a national, daily, independent, award-winning news program airing on over 1,400 public television and radio stations worldwide, including Lincoln’s long-running community radio station, KZUM. For close to 15 years, KZUM has brought listeners this independent lens on national and international news, every weekday at noon. Itis one of KZUM’s most listened-to programs.
“The program has grown over the years to become one of the most supported shows during KZUM’s fund drives — a clear indication that listeners continue to place a high value on independent media,” said KZUM Program Director Ryan Evans..
The talk and book signing event at The Rococo will highlight the importance of noncommercial media like KZUM and “Democracy Now!,” and its power to educate and build community. There will also be a cocktail hour for VIP ticket holders to include complimentary refreshments by Yes Chef Catering, a copy of Goodman’s latest book, “Democracy Now!: Twenty Years Covering the Movements Changing America” (courtesy of Indigo Bridge Books) and a meet and greet with Goodman.
The event aims to be an opportunity to inspire Nebraska’s many aspiring and professional journalists.
“Because of the station’s commitment to support tomorrow’s leaders in broadcast media, we will offer a percentage of complimentary tickets to journalism students from local high schools and surrounding colleges,” said KZUM General Manager Kerry Semrad.
This event is one of several that the station looks forward to producing this year to honor KZUM’s 40th anniversary. The station’s annual summer concert series at Stransky Park celebrates 15 seasons this year and a multicultural festival is planned for June at Antelope Park. More details and event information will be announced soon.
“We’re excited to take what our listeners have heard on the airwaves over the years and bring creative, progressive and electric events that not only highlight our community, but continue to support the diversity and interests within in it,” said KZUM Development Director Shannon Claire.
