Calling all BMX spectators and riders: starting at noon on Saturday, Nowear BMX will be hosting its 6th annual Cornhuckit Jam. Located at 855 N. 18 Road in Unadilla , the day will be filled with live entertainment with music from Laughing Falcon, Molten, Ron Wax, Burn Affect and Skidtard, food from Crave, professional flatland demonstration put on by Reklamation Bikes and a raffle. The fun isn’t exclusive to Saturday, as camping is welcome all weekend long.

The Nowear Compound was established in 2011 and became a nonprofit organization early in 2017. Located on six acres of land in Unadilla, this is truly a paradise for anyone and everyone interested in BMX. With tons of ramps and dirt jumps, it’s hard to believe that they “only charge high fives and smiles.” Starting in 2016 with the mission to create a free, indoor and heated building that would be able to provide training and riding access all year, the idea of the indoor compound was set in motion. Campaigning was successful and in October 2017, the organization broke ground and has started construction. More work and help is still needed to reach the goal of having the project completed by Winter 2018.

Last Thursday, Karl Hinkley and Sam Bussell, of Nowear BMX, joined Slacker Dave on KZUM’s “The Slacker Morning Show”to share some sneak peaks and information about this year’s Cornhuckit Jam.

“Sam and I are prepping every day. All kinds of crazy new things being built this year, including a semi drop. Who doesn’t want to see a bunch of guys huck themselves off a semi?!” said Hinkley.

“A 10-foot drop, the semi is 14 feet tall,” added Bussell.

Unlike previous years, this year will not be featuring a competition. Hinkley and the team are striving for more of a festival vibe this year where everyone’s a winner, doing cool things and having a great time. This year there is the “Runza Ring,” a kid’s strider course where little kids are able to safely emulate their favorite riders.

Some of the musicians on Saturday are fellow BMX riders as well. Kyle Gibson from Laughing Falcon used to ride with Hinkley when they were kids. Nick Johnson and Anthony Parrilli from Burn Affect are also riders. Friends from California, Pennsylvania, Canada and all over will being coming to Nowear for Saturday’s festivities. For all of those BMX fans Hannah Roberts, the current UCI World Champion, Matt Beringer, Adam Banton and more will be hanging out for the weekend.

This year the Nowear team will be at the Nebraska State Fair for the 4th year in a row but will be going mobile, performing at the opening ceremony for the Cornhusker State Games and so much more. To keep up to date on this weekend, all future events and cool things the team are working on, follow Nowear on Facebook and Instagram.
