A small and fortunate crowd gathered around the Rye Room stage of the Bourbon  Theatre for an intimate, acoustic evening with Jason Eady.  I couldda sworn we were hangin’ out on Jason’s front porch, feelin’ cool country breeze and sippin’ a cold beverage within a few feet of him and his band.  And heavens to Betsy, that band can play!  Of note, his guitar player also played the fiddle, mandolin, dobro, and slide.

Jason just released a new self-titled album this past April and the crowd was tickled pink to hear nearly every song from that new album! He stripped it all down for the album and for this tour, giving his listeners a deeper look inside.

You know Miss Twyla loves a good story, and Jason filled us in with a few stories to introduce his songs.  He really warmed my pea-pickin’ heart when he spoke of his guitar teacher, Mr. JC Cannon, a great old blues guitar player from the Delta before he sang “Black Jesus”.  The sweetest lil’ ol’ smile broke out when someone from the audience asked him where Courtney is.  Courtney Patton, a fine country artist in her own right, is Jason’s wife and musical partner and has been hitting a few of his tour dates with him.  Dangnabbit we missed her as she left the tour right before his Lincoln stop.  In between his new material, he played a few gems from 2013’s “AM Country Heaven” and 2009’s “When the Money Runs Out” and 2007’s “Wild-eyes Serenade”. His few covers included that Black Jesus song, the classic “Bear Creek Blues” by The Carter Family and Guy Clark’s “Texas Cookin’”.

Being gracious southern gentlemen, Jason and his band hung out and chatted up those lucky fans, just like he wouldda if we were on his porch!

Twyla Twang hosts “HonkyTonk Heroes” from 9 to 10 p.m. every Friday.
