The Morbs perform at Duffy’s Tavern on Oct. 24, 2018 (Brittany Ward/KZUM).

Wednesday. Middle of the week. Hump day. Too early in the week to be going to a late night show? Not for the crowd at Duffy’s last night to hear local favorite, The Morbs, a new local band, Damn Canyon and New York City’s Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts.

The Morbs started off the night with their “spunk rock” and their Fall/Halloween inspired vests. The trio played crowd favorites like “Kitty Kitty Meow Meow” and others from their album MORBS ATTACKS, which can be found on Bandcamp.

Damn Canyon performs at Duffy’s Tavern on Oct. 24, 2018 (Brittany Ward/KZUM).

Little is known about Damn Canyon, yet, but the newer band has already been on tour to Colorado and Wyoming, with last night’s performance bringing the duo home.

The band has also been busy recording music and played a freshly recorded song for the audience. Check out “Moss” on its Bandcamp site. Also, keep your eyes peeled for the next show they play. Whether it’s a house show or at a club, it is not one to miss.

Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts perform at Duffy’s Tavern on Oct. 24, 2018 (Brittany Ward/KZUM).

Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts, a folk-punk band from New York City, played  Lincoln for the first time in the midst of their busy tour schedule. The band is playing a show almost every night until December (so far), most nights opening for Hobo Johnson while mixing in a few of their own headlining shows.

“Super cool to see local bands that might not have seen otherwise or may not get to see them in New York,” said Lewis. “We’re going to play old songs and news songs. We’ve been opening up for this band, Hobo Johnson and forgot how to structure a longer set but let’s dive in and see what happens.”

Lewis, not only a musician but also a comic book artist (Fuff) played what he liked to call, “a low-budget film.” Flipping through the comic book about the French Revolution, politics and speaking so fast you need to hear it on repeat to catch all of the words.

When the band played “I Got the Disease for LPs,” Lewis told a story of how his love for buying classic, cheap vinyl records inspired this song. Another highlight, “No LSD Tonight,” is a song made in response to one from his first album, “The Last Time I Did Acid I Went Insane,” which fans took literally and would bring him drugs or talk about it a lot. (Hopefully they understand now.) Here’s hoping that the band will come back to Lincoln soon!

Lewis’s music can be found on his website. Here’s a claymation music video for the song “Sad Screaming Old Man.”
