Jason Ricci performs with his band at The Zoo Bar in Lincoln, Neb., on Feb. 14, 2018. Renee Jackson/KZUM.

On Wednesday, Jason Ricci blessed the Zoo Bar with his incredible blues harmonica. Performing at 6 p.m. with a band from New Orleans, Ricci told the crowd that it had been around 10 years since he played at the Zoo Bar. He said it was one of the first places he wanted to get into nearly 20 years ago.

Ricci wasted no time getting into the music. Immediately, he began showing off his gruff and grumbly vocals while the band struck up a blues number behind him. When Ricci wasn’t belting out vocals, he was wailing on his harmonica. Each harmonica solo was dramatic and dominated the room. All eyes were on Ricci as the Zoo Bar audience cheered enthusiastically for every jazzy solo he emitted.

Between sips of Diet Coke and intense harmonica solos, Ricci was moving and grooving. His overall eccentric demeanor on stage was impossible to look away from, and the crowd loved every second of it.

Ricci will be performing at the Chrome Lounge in Omaha on Thursday and Burlington, Iowa, on Friday. For a complete list of tour dates, go to www.mooncat.org/tour/.
