Latino Lives will bring eight local performers to the Bourbon Theater on Friday for an evening of music celebrating the local Latino community.

On June 22, Gerardo Meza Band, Histrionic, JOCKO, Verse and the Vices, Conny Franko, Otos, Threesome Egos and LowDaddyLloyd will perform at the Bourbon beginning at 6 p.m Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the music will last until midnight. The show is free to the public.

The Latino Lives benefit, which made this show possible, was in February at The Bay. Histrionic, Threesome Egos, Verse and the Vices and Conny Franko also performed for that event as well.

The event was first started by Aramara Quintos Tapia, who fronts the punk rock group Histrionic. Quintos Tapia said the goal of the event is to celebrate Latino creativity and work ethic.

“My objective for Latino Lives is to embrace the Latino community within the DIY scene, DIY referring to the ethic of self-sufficiency, and to give Latino artists and musicians a platform to showcase their work and to hopefully inspire other young Latino kids to start working on their projects, whatever those may be,” Quintos Tapia said in an interview with KZUM back in February.

The list of bands performing provide a diverse range of styles and genres. Gerardo Meza Band, a staple on the Lincoln music scene for years, will be bringing their unique show of alternative folk and roots to the Bourbon stage. Histrionic, a three-member alternative band, will bring a more punk rock flavor alongside punk rock band Threesome Egos, while Verse and the Vices have their roots in Lo-Fi indie rock.

Jocko will be performing their distinct form of hardcore rock music, Otos will bring a bold West Coast acoustic set, and Conny Franko and LowDaddyLloyd will bring their brand of hip-hop to the Bourbon.

In all, the second installment of Latino Lives shows the growing support and continued success of the popular concert. The mix of genres like rock, acoustic and hip hop provides for an even larger turnout than in February, especially if the weather is nice and warm. If you’re downtown on Friday, look to stop by the Bourbon for some good music and a celebration of Latino artists and culture – all for free.
