We want to hear from you!

KZUM’s listener line is open for you to call in and record your submissions for potential airplay and webcast. We’re looking for compelling listener-generated content, recorded in your own voice! We might use your recording in on-air or online segments to highlight our listeners and community.

Just check out the current projects we have open below and call the listener recording line at 650-525-4333. Be sure to keep this webpage open during your call or write down the instructions for your chosen project so you can get a good recording.

This is an unattended, voicemail-only line, intended only for the submission of requested content. Messages will be monitored only for usable content related to KZUM’s production projects below. By leaving a recording on KZUM’s listener recording line, you understand that you are submitting material that KZUM may use in any way it sees fit in over-the-air broadcasts or online.

Please be sure to speak as clearly as possible and directly into your phone’s microphone.

Thank you for your help!

Current projects:

HOLIDAY GREETING:

Share a holiday greeting with your fellow KZUM listeners. What are you thinking about this Holiday Season? How are you feeling this year? What are some resolutions you have for the new year?

Target length: 15-25 seconds.

If you are comfortable, please include your name, where you’re from, and a KZUM HD-ID (see below).

** We will not produce any Christmas-Specific announcements for submissions made after December 21.

EXAMPLE:

COVID-19 Project:

Let’s talk about how the COVID 19 pandemic has changed your daily life. How are you feeling about social distancing? What words of encouragement do you have for your community? Call in and tell us about your challenges and maybe even some silver-linings.

Target length: 1 to 2 minutes.

We’d love it if you could also include a personalized Station Identification [see below].

Station Identification

Record a simple legal station ID for KZUM, to be played on the air during regular station breaks.

Target length: 5-15 seconds.

  1. Call the KZUM listener recording line at 531-333-2598. Begin recording after the prompt and the beep.
  2. Read this script, using your name and location:
    • “This is [FIRST NAME] [LAST NAME – optional] from [CITY] and you are listening to 89.3 KZUM Lincoln and KZUM H D.”
    • Example: “This is John Doe from Lincoln and you are listening to 89.3 KZUM Lincoln and KZUM H D.”
    • Feel free to let us know how long you’ve been listening and/or add anything creative before or after the ID.

The Listener List

Tell us a list of 5-10 items. Any items that are related — maybe in a way that only makes sense to you. But keep us guessing until the end, when you finally reveal what your list is.

Target length: 30-60 seconds.

Step by step:

  1. Call the KZUM listener recording line at 531-333-2598. Begin recording after the prompt and the beep.
  2. Clearly announce each item on your list.
  3. Finally, tell us what the list you just recited is.
  4. Clearly state your name and where you are from (first name only is fine, but recordings without names will not be used).

Yep, we stole this idea from Transom.org founder Jay Allison and WCAI. Listen to an example of one of their listener “short lists.”

Storytime

Tell us a story. Any story, you’d like. Maybe it’s how you came to live in Nebraska. Maybe it’s reading a poem you composed. Maybe it’s about something interesting or beautiful you saw around town this week. Anything goes. Bonus points for a local tie-in to Lincoln.

Target length: 45-90 seconds.

  1. Call the KZUM listener recording line at 531-333-2598. Begin recording after the prompt and the beep.
  2. Finally, tell us your story.
  3. Clearly state your name and where you are from (first name only is fine, but recordings without names will not be used).
