Kevin Brown

A new comedy club will open this week in Lincoln’s Haymarket with a series of performances by a nationally recognized comedy veteran.

The Comedy Loft, 701 P St., Suite 205, will celebrate its grand opening beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday with comic Kevin Brown, formerly of “30 Rock,” with Lincoln’s Juli Burney.

Brown is well known from the NBC comedy series for playing Dot Com  — Tracy Jordan’s childhood friend and member of his personal entourage — a role that won him a Screen Actors Guild Award.

He and Burney will also perform two shows on both Friday and Saturday evenings.

Located across the hall from the TADA theatre on the second floor of the Creamery Building, The Comedy Loft picked a convenient location. With wooden floors, a great-sized room and prepaid parking, the space maximizes seating as much as possible, with each table fit for a party of four.

According to its website, the club plans to feature comedians seen on the national comedy circuit as well as on HBO, The Comedy Channel, Showtime and Netflix.

The Comedy Loft suggests to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to each event. Prepaid VIP parking will be available from Park and Go by calling 441-PARK.

The club will continue its programming in the coming weeks with headliners such as Rocky LaPorte, a finalist on “Last Comic Standing,” Matt Geiler from “America’s Got Talent,” Willie Farrell from Showtime’s “The Godfathers of Comedy,” Rex Havens from Comedy Central and Mr. Showtime from Las Vegas and more.

Next weekend’s headliner will be Chris “Crazy Legs” Fonseca from “Late Night with David Letterman.”

Open mic nights will also be part of the regular offerings beginning on April 24. A few nights later, Gayle Becwar, with feature act Brent Aitchison, will play the April 26-28 stand.  Comic magician Becwar will return home to Lincoln for a night full of entertainment. Performing in front of thousands of companies across the globe, he has a unique brand of clean, interactive, fast-paced magic and comedy.

“Feedback from many of the agents and top acts on the national comedy circuit has been overwhelmingly positive about having a club to play in Lincoln,” said Becwar, also one of the managers booking acts for The Comedy Loft. “We have been very pleased with the response from national acts who are ready to have a full-time club back in the capital city. We have booked a wide variety of acts with something for everyone who comes to the club.”

Check out even more scheduled acts throughout May and the rest of the summer. For the full list of names and more info visit comedy loft.club.
