Join Bob Henrickson, host of KZUM’s How’s it Growin’?, for an open house at Big Red Worms, 3211 NW 39th St., 10 a.m.-noon, to meet the worms and get a firsthand look at the vermicomposting operation. You’ll learn more about composting and sustainable farming, as well as techniques to improve your garden soil fertility, water retention, and soil warming.
You’ll also have the opportunity to register for quarterly classes to master the art of home vermicomposting. Heather Nobert, of the Nebraska Forest Service and the Great Plains Biochar initiative, will discuss and demonstrate the benefits of using compost to activate biochar to improve our soils.
