September’s First Friday this week boasts a great offering of galleries, live music and more to do. Here’s a schedule of some of the happenings.
10:00 a.m.: A Novel Idea – A Benefit for Free Little Libraries
5:00 p.m.: The Zoo Bar – KZUM Blues Blowout featuring: Lil Ed and the Blues Imperials, Heather Newman, & Levi William
5:00 p.m.:: Tower Square (13th & P st.) – Hear Lincoln featuring: Phip Phippa and MSha
6:00 p.m.:: The Mez – Swatches: Works by Katharen Hedges
Katharen Hedges is a Lincoln native and an art student at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, emphasizing in multimedia printmaking and lithography. As a multiracial black woman, Hedge’s racial and cultural identities were complicated to navigate. This body of work was a way of navigating who she was. ‘Swatches’ is an exploration into the words we use to define colors, race, and ourselves. Through a series of prints and installations Hedges hopes to engage the viewer in a dialogue about how they understand and categorize themselves and other people in the world of color.
6:00 p.m.: Stella Collective – Pop-Up Shop With Ewenion. Ewenion makes the dreamiest woolen goods and is appearing just in time for those chillier fall temps.
7:00 p.m.: III Of Cups – Cauldrons. III of Cups presents: Cauldrons – The work of Phoebe Little.
7:00 p.m.: Iron Tail Gallery – I Live In My Own World Now. And I’m Happy Here
Craig Roper’s art giveaway show I LIVE IN MY OWN WORLD NOW AND I’M HAPPY HERE opens this Friday at 7:00. There will be French accordion music by Julia Williams, drinks served up by the team @ The Talon Room, and made-to-order tostadas by ChefauChef.
7:00 p.m.: Union Plaza – Art at the Plaza. A concert series for every First Friday of the month. This month’s concert features Azraq & The Root Marm Chicken Farm Band
