Performing on Thursday night at the Zoo Bar, Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas entertained a crowd that was entranced both by what they were hearing and what they were seeing.
Hernandez’s facial expressions and body movements fluctuated just as much as her voice did. Together they formed a story that flowed along with the music, making the live show a complete package.
While the music’s catchy pop style and intense pace can undoubtedly stand on its own, seeing Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas perform was like being swept up in a hurricane. But a pleasant one with sultry sounds and the best company anyone could ask for.
As they played their first song, I was having trouble deciding whether their music sounded new or old. There is a definite old school feel to its soulfulness and yet it has a fresh, modern energy. By the third song I came to the conclusion that it didn’t matter; I liked it and that’s all I needed to know.

Although Hernandez has enjoyed playing Lincoln the few times the band has come through, she is anxious for the end of the tour. After a couple more shows, the Detroit-based group will finally head home to relax and to keep working.
Their new album is slated for a release date in early 2017, with a single coming out in November. The difference between the new album and the previous ones is that this one is more of a collaborative effort.
“This is the first record I let my band have a hand in writing,” said Hernandez.
If the new songs that were played at their Lincoln show were any indication, then the next album should be nothing short of amazing.
