  • Widely considered one of today’s top guitarists, the Chicago-born Wayne Baker Brooks will light up the Zoo Bar stage with a mixture of powerful vocals and rich blues guitar. Brooks has performed alongside some of the best the genre has ever seen, such as Buddy Guy, Bo Diddley, Jimmy Vivino, Mick Fleetwood and many more. Brooks and his band will surely put on a rockin’ show for February’s First Friday.

First Friday Big Art Bazaar at The Bourbon

  • Doors open at 6 p.m.
  • The Big Art Bazaar at the Bourbon Theatre will return this February for First Friday. Featuring local and regional artists, the bazaar aims to showcase jewelry, clothing, fine arts and a plethora of other creations across a large range of art mediums. Some of the artists include Noah Garcia and his glass art, Angela Valentine with her body paintings and live art and Scotty Nash with his two-dimensional art based on an esoteric philosophy.

  • Photographers Robert Stewart and Margot Erlandson will be showcasing their photography in III of Cups within Parrish Studios.

  • The Tugboat Gallery will feature the works of Megan McClintic, Nadia Shinkunas and Shawn Teseo Ballarin – each showcasing a unique approach to using space in their artwork. McClintic said she enjoys painting objects which have significance to another person, Shinkunas said she lives “for the shadows, negative space and details perceived as insignificant” and Ballarin said he explores the themes of travel, isolation and change through simple and primal subject matter.

  • Join the LUX Center for the Arts on First Friday to see the professional photography of Peter Olson. Olsen has travelled the world taking pictures of everything from corporate culture to religious iconography, looking for instances of human expression. Olson will showcase his new collection of ceramics that were inspired from his experience with a camera.

METAL YOGA

  • Yoga set to the tune of a variety of industrial, doom and stoner metal will kick off this First Friday at the Big Top Performance Art Center. Join the yoga group as they “venture into the darker side of yoga.” They also remind people to BYOB.

Sweet On You Formal

  • A high-school styled formal set in Candyland will take up the space of the Turbine Flats Project on First Friday. Enjoy dancing, good food and drinks and get your picture taken with your sweetheart by Amanda Leise Photography. After-dance karaoke will be happening, and make sure to dress in formal attire.
