The monthly Soups & Songs concert series put on by KZUM at the historic Ferguson House closed with its last performance of the season on Sunday.
Lincoln singer-songwriter SAS brought her blend of soft folk music to a full room of music and soup lovers, as the chilly weather didn’t stop anybody from coming out to see SAS and the final concert of the season.
SAS was accompanied by many local musicians, with the stage filled to capacity with guest artists from local bands Jack Hotel, Universe Contest, A Ferocious Jungle Cat and others, creating a full-band arrangement for both original music and covers.
Complementary to the cold spring weather, SAS and friends played a vibrant mixture of upbeat, melodic folk songs and gentle, melancholic duets. SAS’s lyrics ranged from writings on lost love to questions on personal identity, leaving listeners as though they’d gained years of wisdom in the short hour and a half-long set.
The group played together effortlessly, with a unique mixture of strings, acoustic, electric and steel guitar, muted drum-set, keyboard and bells offering an incredible experience for the small room in Ferguson House. Both original songs and arrangements, as well as covers of Leonard Cohen and Gillian Welch, were intimate and harmonious.
Overall, SAS & Friends provided an exceptional show to close out the other great performances Soups & Songs had over the six-month season. Meadowlark Coffee and Open Harvest also once again provided amazing soups and treats, and KZUM can’t wait to put on more fantastic shows at the Ferguson House for fall 2018.
