In the days following Thanksgiving, there are many traditional ways to spend for the holiday season, including Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. In recent years, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has been utilized to ask the public to show financial support to their favorite local (or national) nonprofits; this tradition is called Giving Tuesday.
KZUM operates as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) radio station. As a nonprofit, we cannot obtain advertising dollars the same way that commercial radio stations can. In order to maintain operation, KZUM holds Fund Drives three times a year. Our listeners have made a strong impact during those fund drives in recent years, and KZUM is doing better than ever because of the outstanding listener support. We will not be holding a proper fund drive again until February, but that doesn’t mean you can’t support us through the end of 2019.
If you’ve been meaning to give all year long, but have not done so, this month will be your last opportunity to get your donation in by the end of the calendar year. As a nonprofit, your donation to KZUM may even be tax deductible. When you make your donation between Dec. 3 and Dec. 31 you can get your hands on KZUM Cookie Cutters at the $50 level (or above) and the new KZUM socks at $100. If you want both of those items, you can get them when you donate $150 or more.
Because our listeners have been so supportive, we now have four full time staff members, a second production studio and eight original, locally-curated, locally-focused KZUM Podcasts. We were also able to broadcast Jazz in June live on our FM channel and provide another Summer full of Stransky Park concerts.
In 2020, we look forward to the return of Stransky Park concerts. We also hope to expand our Podcast Partners Program even further and include a greater number of voices in our programming. We are also hoping to partner with more community members and organizations that share the goal of inclusion and education of all members of our community.
We hope that you will consider helping you local radio station this holiday season. We wish the best to all of our KZOOMIEs as 2019 wraps up, and we hope for the best as the dawn of a new decade arrives.
