This Sunday, family fun and instrument exploration comes to O’Donnell Auditorium at Wesleyan University at 2 p.m. for Lincoln Symphony Orchestra’s “Adventures of Melvin the Explorer”.
The show is hosted by Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra (LSO), an organization that has been dedicated to bring classical music to the Lincoln community since 1927. The “Adventures of Melvin the Explorer” is the second family series concert of LSO’s season and includes face painting at 1 p.m., arts and crafts with Lincoln’s Macaroni Kids and a photobooth by JamesAnn Photography. Dietze Music and Lincoln Suzuki Studios are sponsoring an “instrument petting zoo,” allowing for hand-on experience with a variety of instruments. Capital Humane Society will also be there with coloring sheets, talking about microchipping and an interactive activity.
“The program tells a story of Melvin who travels through different lands to learn about music, portrayed by actor Tim Marrone, and the orchestra goes on this adventure as well, playing many excerpts from well known classical pieces, and movie music as well,” said Chantal Incandela, LSO Marketing Coordinator.
In addition, Marrone will be visiting a few libraries to give a preview ahead of the performance this Sunday: on Jan. 31 at10:30 a.m. at Gere and 6:30 p.m. at Anderson Public Library, and Feb. 2, at 10:30 a.m., at Walt Library.
“The Abbreviated Adventures of Melvin the Explorer is an educational outreach done by actor Tim Marrone at various libraries, schools, and the Lincoln Children’s Museum,” said Incandela. “The orchestra will not be present for that, but Tim will be talking about the orchestra and the show, including the themes in the program: rhythm, melody & harmony, and give an overall synopsis of the storyline and characters, as a sort of preview for the concert.”
Single tickets are still available for purchase: $10 for adults and $5 for those 17 and under. There are also family passes (two adults and all dependent children) available for $50.
