Curators:
Michael Villarreal, 3rd year Masters of Fine Arts, University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Rosana Ybarra, 2nd year Masters of Fine Arts, University of Nebraska-Lincoln
In Tugboat Gallery’s “Conduit” showcase, curators Micahel Villarreal and Rosana Ybarra bring together three artists that use three different mediums. This exhibition is an exploration of the “dynamic translation between states.”
Technology, politics and other social concepts fuel this investigation into how “temporary moments become an agent for residual material output.”
Inspiration for the show came from the curator’s desire to bring non-Nebraska artists to Lincoln to show art from other parts of the country that fit into their concept.
Owen Drysdale of New York explores what “effects of constant access to data has on the process of thought” through deconstructing moments to their remaining memory.
Katie Holden of Los Angeles investigates the relationship of the digital and natural spaces, and her art reflects this overlap through a variety of mediums.
Michael Menchaca of San Antonio, Texas, works with the medium of technology using animation and digital effects, his pieces feature contemporary social imagery.
“Conduit” runs through October 29. More information about Tugboat Gallery, 116 N 14th St., is available on their Facebook page.
