December ‘tis the season for giving and, this weekend, what better way to give back to the community than to get down to some of your favorite funk, soul and R&B performers?
This Saturday marks the third annual Nebraska Funk & Soul Alliance in downtown Lincoln, with a dozen performers and DJs scheduled to perform at Duffy’s Tavern, Bodega’s Alley and The Zoo Bar.
All proceeds from the event will again be going to charities that support at-risk youths, such as The Bay, Jacob’s Well, Lighthouse, The Malone Center, Emergency Services, Omaha Home for Boys, Youth Care & Beyond, and Youth Link in Omaha. All the performers are donating their time to the cause.
A minimum $10 donation will give you access to all three venues, however, if you feel obliged to donate more that is always welcome.
There have been some additions to this year’s festivities, including a silent art and music auction and spoken word performances. The auction will be in Parrish Studios, 7-11 p.m., and feature work by local artists including Shawn Ballerin, Wendy Bantam,, Hannah Demma, Katharen Weise, Thalia Rodgers, Gerardo Meza and others.
Live poetry will begin at Duffy’s at 8 p.m., with music will beginning at 9 p.m. Resident DJs will also be at each venue; DJ Relic at Duffy’s, DJ Spencelove at Bodega’s and DJ Ole Moaner at Zoo Bar.
